Health Promotion FIRST (Funding Integrated Research, Synthesis and Training)
(S.1001 & H.R. 2354 in 111th Congress)

Heath Promotion FIRST provides a strategy to integrate health promotion concepts into many areas of national policy through strategic plans that include developing an national health promotion plan and challenging each of the members of the president's cabinet to use the resources and authority of their departments to enhance health. It solidifies the health promotion science base by calling for health promotion research agenda at National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It also opens up eligibility for Prevention Research Centers grants to all qualified organizations and affirms CDC's authority to set selection criteria and select the organizations it feels are most qualified.
